Washington Man Arrested In Izhut Bay Stabbings

The Alaska State Troopers say a 33-year-old Washington State man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his crewmates on that fishing boat in Izhut Bay Wednesday.
Troopers arrested Shane Flemens, of Wenatchee, Washington, on Wednesday. Troopers say Flemens was aboard the fishing boat Kilokak, in Izhut Bay, on the southeast coast of Afognak Island, when he entered the galley of the boat Wednesday morning and attacked three crewmates with an 8-inch knife.
First, he allegedly tried to stab 20-year-old Robert Lindsey. Troopers say Flemens then turned on 19-year-old Daniel Courchaine, pushed him to the floor, and began stabbing him in the chest and throat. Courchaine was taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center after being medevac’d by a Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Kodiak.
When the captain of the boat, 65-year-old Vitomir Kalcic entered the galley, troopers say Flemens also tried to stab him.
No motive for the attack has been given. In addition to the attempted murder charges, Flemens was also charged with multiple counts of assault.
