An End Is In Sight

There are only days remaining for the paving of the Y-intersection downtown to be completed, and some business owners can hardly wait. Mary Donaldson has this update.

Paving at the Y-intersection is near completion and downtown business owners couldn’t be happier. Cy Hoen, owner of Cy’s Sporting Goods, has nothing but negative feelings towards the whole project and says he is irked by how slow progress has been.

Jerimiah Myers, owner of the Kodiak Vision Clinic, says he looks forward to everything being completed, that way his customers won’t have to deal with the rough roads while trying to get to his business.

Jason Baxley, the Department of Transportation’s project engineer for the Y, says that the final layer of pavement could be completed by today (Tuesday), as long as the weather cooperates.

He says that unfortunately, some businesses will have to wait a few more weeks in order have construction finished at their locations.

He says that most of the work is complete on the Y, and that the there are only smaller tasks to take care of once the paving is done.

Baxley says the grand finale of it all will be the addition of the new traffic light downtown. The blinking light located at the Rezanof and Marine Way intersection will be replaced by a computerized traffic signal. He says that by late in August, the new system should be complete.
