The Soldotna Stars may have gotten the better of the Kodiak Bears on the gridiron over the weekend, but the Kodiak spikers continue to reign supreme, taking down SoHi at the net.

Kodiak won the Northern Lights Conference match here on Friday in four, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-22. In a non-conference match Saturday, Kodiak won again, in five games, 3-2.

The next test for the Bears will be at the West Anchorage High School "Spiketacular" tournament this weekend.

And while Soldotna High School’s football and volleyball teams were here on the Rock, Kodiak High School swimmers were dominating at the SoHi Pentathlon in Soldotna.

The Kodiak girls cruised to an easy team victory, scoring 58 points. Seward was second with 32, while Soldotna was right behind in third with 31. They were followed by Valdez, Homer, Colony and Wasilla.

On the boys’ side, Kodiak was second, with 32 points. Wasilla won with 60. Seward, SoHi, Homer, Kenai and Cordova rounded out the field.

For the boys, Nando Macinko was Kodiak’s top finisher, placing fifth with a combined time of 2-minutes 46-point-36 seconds. Eric Friccerro was eighth, and Layden Linscheid was 10.

The Bears will swim in the Kenai Invitational this weekend.
