Residents of Kodiak are reacting to the news that Senator Ted Stevens is guilty of seven counts of making false statements on Senate financial disclosure documents.
Jessica Wolfe was enjoying a Subway sandwich lunch when she heard the news. She says she voted early in this year’s election, and doesn’t regret casting a vote for Senator Stevens. Wolfe says Stevens was the only Republican she voted for, but she decided to back him because he’s done so much for Alaska and she doesn’t think the charges against him were all that serious.

Rhonda Maker has been a vocal critic of Stevens’ involvement in fisheries issues. A commercial fisherman about a dozen years, Maker now owns two stores in Kodiak, the Treasury and Treasury Home. She says the guilty verdict reaffirms her belief that Stevens’ influence on the fishing industry needs investigating.

Stevens faces up to five years in prison on each count but, under federal sentencing guidelines, will likely receive much less prison time, if any.
