The Kodiak Island Borough clerk’s office has released the unofficial tally of write-in votes from Tuesday’s Municipal Election. There were seats on both the assembly and the school board that did not attract any declared candidates when the filing period closed, so several people waged write-in campaigns. The figures, released late Thursday afternoon do not include absentee in person, by-mail, special needs, or questioned ballots.

For the school board, Petal Ruch received 210 votes. Jana Turvey had 119 and Jerry Lampl had 114.

On the assembly, only Dave Kaplan announced a write-in campaign, and received the lion’s share of votes with 294. Former Assemblyman Mel Stephens had 35, Scott Arndt had 22 and his mother Lorna Arndt had 10.

Write-ins also decided a majority of service area races. Click on the link above for a PDF of the write-in tally.
