KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
The slate of candidates for various offices in the Kodiak Island Borough has been set, with seven vacancies – all in service area boards.
And since there are only two candidates for two seats on the Board of Education, candidates Norm Wooten, who is seeking re-election, and Debra Kirk, who is running unopposed, are almost guaranteed election. The same thing happened last year when newcomer Aaron Griffin ran unopposed. Incumbent Peggy Rauwolf is not seeking re-election.
Speaking of Griffin, he is now seeking a seat on the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, and faces incumbents Jerrol Friend and Chris Lynch.
David Conrad is the only candidate for the two seats open on the Womens Bay Road Service Area Board, but there are four candidates for the two seats available on the Fire Protection Number 1 Board. Scott Arndt, Rebecca Nelson, Robert Perkins and Kiela Pickett will compete for the two, three-year terms.
There are no candidates for the six open seats among Service Area Number One, Bay View Road Service Area, or the Monashka Bay Road Service Area.
The deadline for Kodiak City Council filings was also yesterday afternoon, and City Clerk Deb Marlar says there are three candidates for two open seats. Rich Walker will be challenging incumbents Gabriel Saravia and Mark Vizcocho.
The municipal election will be on October 2nd.
