The U.S. Coast Guard medevac’d a man from a fishing vessel north of Cold Bay Thursday morning. According to a press release, the 21-year-old crewmember lost consciousness and the Coast Guard was notified of the medical emergency aboard the Seafreeze Alaska a little after 7:30 a.m. The vessel was located about 195 miles north of Cold Bay, a city in the Aleutians East Borough.

The Coast Guard Cutter Midgett received the call and met the Seafreeze Alaska north of Cold Bay, where it served as “a support platform” for a Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and its crew. The weather on-site at the time was 20 mph winds and 7-foot seas.

The helicopter hoisted the crewmember from the vessel and then refueled aboard the cutter before transporting the man to Guardian Flight emergency medical personnel in Cold Bay.
