Feds Direct Money to Kodiak for Parent Training

Nearly $9,500 for parenting skills training on Kodiak has been added to the Senate Appropriations Bill for the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services.

The Circle of Security Training is a program of the Kodiak Area Native Association. KANA will provide two Kodiak based and one village based parenting skills training using the Circle of Security program. The Circle of Security model, is a relationship-based early intervention program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and children.

Parents receive training on identifying their child’s needs and determining if their responses are able to meet those needs. Parents are led through a series of videos and reflective discussions each week to strengthen their relationship capacity. Two facilitators will be present to lead the discussions.

In addition, funds are directed to Alaska’s Community Health Centers to expand in to behavioral health and substance abuse treatment.

The Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill now heads to the Senate floor for final consideration.
