Charter Bus Hits Pedestrian on Return from Concert

It was dark and rainy late Saturday night when a bus carrying revelers returning from the Lion Club’s Warm August Nights concert hit and seriously injured a pedestrian a little after 11 p.m. on the road into town.

According to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch, 21-year-old Jamie Ponce Cruz was reportedly in the middle of the road when the yellow school bus struck him at about mile 8 of Rezanof Drive West. The bus was driven by 61-year-old Kenneth Cameron.

Cruz was taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center for treatment, but was later transported to Anchorage for what were reported to be serious injuries. Troopers closed Rezanof Drive West at the site of the collision for approximately 90-minutes to investigate the accident.
