As KMXT reported this week, the 2016 Kodiak area pink salmon run has turned out to be among the worst in about 40 years.

According to Fish and Game figures, the pink salmon catch through Monday was 3,237,640 – for the whole season. Just 32 humpies were delivered yesterday (Monday); 20 on Sunday, 85 Saturday and 70 on Friday.

The sockeye, or red salmon season is still seeing daily harvest figures in four- and five-digits. Monday 10,751 were delivered, with approximately 3,100, 7,500, and 2,900 in the three days previous. The season total for sockeye catch as of Monday’s count is 2,018,331.

Fishermen have delivered 502,057 chum salmon so far this season, as well as 199,682 coho and 7,014 king salmon.

The all-species catch total in the Kodiak area stands at 5,864,724 salmon of all five varieties.
