Campaign Spending Just a Blip in District 32

Like almost everything, the cost of political campaigns are skyrocketing, with billions of dollars being spent in nationwide races. But here in Alaska House District 32, the total amount raised, much less spent, by all the candidates combined probably couldn’t buy a minute of national prime time TV advertising.

Representative Louise Stutes, the incumbent Republican, has raised a total of $43,064.74, according to her Alaska Public Offices Commission “Seven-Day Report,” filed last Monday. It also shows she’s spent $32,687.07.

Democratic challenger Brent Watkins’ 7-Day Report showed his campaign bringing in $7,103.82 with expenses amounting to $5,550.93.

Independent challenger Duncan Fields, has nearly matched Stutes in both funds raised and spent. His 7-Day Report shows a campaign income total of $42,628.03, and a campaign expense total of $31,365.67.

In Senate District P, incumbent Republican Gary Stevens has raised $10,975, and spent just $5,818.71. Stevens faces unaffiliated challenger Carrie Harris of Homer. In her 7-Day filing, she reported no money raised and no money spent.
