Now that students are back in class, the high school basketball season has gotten underway in earnest. The Kodiak High School Bears split a home-and-away series with the arch-rival Stars of Soldotna over the weekend.
On the Kenai Peninsula, the visiting Lady Bears kept it close on Friday, but fell 26-22. Saturday, Kodiak led by 3 after the first quarter, 13-to-10, but were held to only 12 more points the rest of the game, while giving up 29. The final was 39-to-25, boosting Soldotna to a perfect 5-and-0 record.
Meanwhile, here on the Rock, the Kodiak boys did the sweeping against the Stars. Friday, despite a strong 4th quarter from Soldotna, the Bears won 49-to-42. The next day was almost an exact repeat, with Kodiak victorious 48-to-41.
