Borough Brings Instant Government Access to Web

The Kodiak Island Borough has launched a new online tool for citizens to stay up-to-speed on their government’s activities.

Launching this week, the goal of the “Civic Web Portal” is to “make open governance a reality for the entire borough,” according to an announcement from the borough clerk’s office.

Accessible from the borough’s homepage by clicking on the “meeting info” button, it will take you to information about the people, the meetings and the decisions of the borough’s assembly, boards, commissions and committees. There are even pictures and contact information for all elected officials.

The simple-looking calendar showing which days have meetings hides some powerful capabilities. By clicking any date, it takes you right to the appropriate agenda with links to all associated documents.

The borough is also touting the advanced search engine in Civic Web, making the search for specific documents much easier, including those that date back to the incorporation of the Kodiak Island Borough in 1963.

You can even watch assembly meetings streamed live on the page.
