Alaska Fisheries Report – DEC. 20, 2018

The list of top ports in the country is out. Is anyone surprised that Dutch Harbor placed number one and number two for volume and value of product landed in 2017?

No word yet as to who will head up the commercial fisheries division, but ADF&G gets three new key people.

Sitka had its worst pink salmon season in 44 years, but it could have been a lot worse. We look at the area’s regional hatcheries and the vision of the founders.

Also this week, a report on the Coast Guard finishing up its work in the Arctic for this year.

We had help from Zoe Sobel at KCUB in Unalaska, Robert Woolsey at KCAW in Sitka. Davis Hovey from KNOM in Nome. And from Laine Welch at Alaska Fish Radio.

Happy Holidays to fishermen and those who love them. Merry Christmas to all from me and all of us here at KMXT in Kodiak where we produce the Alaska Fisheries Report.
