Alutiiq Museum to create online database of repatriation efforts

While efforts to repatriate Alaska Native remains have been ongoing, keeping track of those remains has been difficult. But now the Alutiiq Museum in Kodiak is building a database of repatriation efforts for the archipelago’s communities.  Amanda Lancaster is the Alutiiq museum’s curator of collections. ‘Alaska Rose’ presumed to have sunk after Coast Guard and Good Samaritan vessel rescue crew

A fishing vessel capsized offshore from Chiniak yesterday, requiring the Coast Guard [USCG] to send a rescue crew. No fatalities were reported. Weather conditions at the time included 30 knot winds and eight foot seas. According to a Coast Guard statement, the Alaska Rose, a 46-foot-fishing vessel, reported that they were taking on water two miles northeast of Chiniak Island …

Kodiak Economic Development Corp. elects local electric utility staff member to Board of Directors

The Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) elected a new Board Member during its 2024 elections earlier this month. Jessica Johnson, who is the manager of power generation at Kodiak Electric Association, will serve an undetermined amount of time on the KEDC Board of Directors.
