The Alaska State Troopers are investigating a fight aboard a fishing boat in Izhut Bay this (Wednesday) morning that left two men injured – one bad enough that he needed to be flown out for treatment. Izhut Bay is off the southeast coast of Afognak Island.
A Coast Guard helicopter arrived on the scene just before 10 a.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer to the 49-foot fishing vessel Kilokak. One crewman was given first aid, but the other needed further medical attention and was evacuated.
The 24-year-old man was hoisted aboard the MH-60 Jayhawk and brought to Kodiak where he was transferred to an awaiting city ambulance. He is reported to be in stable condition at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.
