Salmon Season Open In Kodiak

The first day of commercial salmon fishing Thursday brought in a small amount of three species – all from the Karluk, Northwest Kodiak and Southwest Afognak areas.

Fifteen chum salmon were reported caught to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, along with 37 king salmon and 869 reds.
The first period of the year started at noon yesterday and runs 57 hours until 9 p.m. Saturday in the Central and North Cape sections of the Northwest Kodiak District, and until further notice in the Duck and Izhut Bay sections of the Afognak District, the Foul Bay special harvest area and the Waterfall Bay special harvest area.
