The Kodiak High School Bears football team continues its start-of-the-season winning streak, blanking Northern Lights Conference rival the Skyview Panthers on Saturday in Soldotna. With a final of 19-to-0, it was a lower scoring affair than the Bears’ first two wins of the season.

Kodiak quarterback Kevin Lepola provided the only scoring in the first half with an 8-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Late in the third quarter Kodiak’s defense continued its scoring ways, with a fumble recovery in the end zone by Chris Dunn to put Kodiak up 14-nothing.

The Bears got two more points in the fourth on a safety, and capped the scoring on a field goal with less than a minute to play.

Gary Anthony led the way on the ground with 70 yards on 19 carries, and also had five receptions for 47 yards. Lepola threw for 43 of those on five-of-12 passing, while the Bears’ other quarterback, Josh Bailor had 14 yards on two-of-six passing.

The Bears are now 3-and-0 on the season, and 2-and-0 in the Northern Lights Conference. Kodiak returns to the Central Peninsula this weekend for a game against the Kenai Kardinals.
