Boiler Leak Takes Kodiak Island Brewery Off Line

Jay Barrett/KMXT

Lovers of fine beer are bracing themselves for a potential shortage of ales, porters and more from Kodiak’s premier craft brewer. Kodiak Island Brewing Company owner Ben Millstein announced today (Friday) that a steam boiler in his Shelikof Street brewery has cracked, stopping production.

Brewer Mike Trussell said water was leaking fast from the boiler when he discovered the leak.

Millstein said there’s enough beer in stock to make deliveries, quote, "for awhile," but that sooner or later it’s going to, quote, "start to hurt."

Millstein said a new boiler will have to be imported, with shipping and installation taking between three and six weeks.
