Students and staff presented about a half hour of videos expressing the need for a new high school in Kodiak at Monday night’s school board meeting.

The student video has very little dialog, but that didn’t stop the students from silently asking questions written on pieces of paper, like “Why am I always late for class?”

See part one of the student video here. The other two parts can be found on the same YouTube page. The administration video is here .

This is the introduction:

(School Vids 1 29 sec “Forty years ago … and Vote Yes.”)

The video follows a student from one class to another, through a seemingly endless maze of hallways and staircases, as an example of why students are often late for classes.

Student council president Karsten Schick spoke to the school board after the video was shown:

(School Vids 2 48 sec “And that there is … in our high school before.”)

Superintendent Stuart McDonald introduced the administration’s video:

(School Vids 3 1:13 “Before the students … debt reimbursement program.”)

The videos are available online. Search for Kodiak High School on You Tube and Google Videos to see them.

In less than a week residents of the Kodiak Island Borough will be asked to authorize the sale of up to 115-million-dollars in bonds to fund the construction of a new school. The Municipal Election will be on Tuesday, October 7th.
