KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
The Kodiak City Council short-listed five candidates for the city manager’s job being vacated soon by Linda Freed at its work session Tuesday evening. Out of a total pool of 18 candidates, which included five from Alaska and three from Kodiak, eight were eliminated for having incomplete applications.
The five selected finalists for the job are David Fuqua and Timothy Rooney, both of Oklahoma, and Alaskans David Richards of Hoonah, Rich Walker of Kotzebue and Kodiak’s Aimee Kniaziowski.
Councilman Tom Walters said he thought the three Kodiak applicants should have been automatically shortlisted.

Not all council members agreed with Walters, however, so instead the council completed a review of each application, scoring each one on a points system. City Clerk Debbie Marlar described the scoring process to the city council.

The top five candidates were selected to move onto the next round which includes a questionnaire and an interview. Freed, speaking from experience, said the process can be daunting.
