The Kodiak Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet next week to discuss and take action on proposals concerning the hunting of deer, mountain goat, feral reindeer and brown bear. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will also give an update on sea otters at the meeting. KMXT’s Erik Wander has more.
John Cry is an area wildlife biologist with Fish and Game. He talked about the proposals that will be discussed at the meeting.
— (Cry 1 50 sec. "Right now we have a reindeer… registration mountain goat hunt.")
Cry said the proposal for changing brown bear permit regulations relates largely to people who come to Kodiak from other places to hunt.
— (Cry 2 38 sec. "The proposal for brown bear is to … myself here at the office.")
Cry also said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will provide an update on sea otter populations at the meeting.
— (Cry 3 12 sec. "The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service … otter population status.")
The Kodiak Fish and Game Advisory Committee meeting takes place Tuesday, February 17th at 7 p.m. at the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitors’ Center. Further information on the Unit 8 game proposals, which govern hunting on Kodiak Island, is available online at Fish and Game’s Web site. I’m Erik Wander.
