The economic stimulus package that passed congress includes several items for spending in Alaska, and one of the largest for the state appears to be a new airport and connecting road in Ouzinkie, on Spruce Island, just north of Kodiak City.

Alaska Republican Representative Don Young voted against the bill, as did Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski. Democratic Senator Mark Begich supported the bill, though worked with Republicans to reduce the amount of spending.

The price tag for the Ouzinkie Airport project is estimated to between 10-million and 20-million dollars, and appears to be "shovel-ready," as the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is ready to advertise for bids as soon as the stimulus bill is signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Also included in the D-O-T’s list of projects is rut repair on Rezanof Drive West, as it heads out of downtown towards the airport, and work on the Chiniak Highway at Mile 24.
