KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
Among the five finalists for the city manager’s job selected by the Kodiak City Council at Tuesday evening’s work session was one resident of Kodiak. Aimee Kniaziowski (Kenya-JOW-ski) has been living in Kodiak for about 14 months, but is a 35-year resident of the state.
KMXT’s Erik Wander has more.
Kniaziowski was the assistant city manager in Dutch Harbor from 1999 to 2007 when she moved to Kodiak. She says her 35 years living in the state has resulted in an understanding of how state and local governments function. She also said she would bring a unique skills set to the job.

Kniaziowski said she’s familiar with a lot of the issues the city council will face, both in the short-term and long-term, and said her background will help her make significant contributions as city manager.

Kniaziowski said she understands that fisheries provide the backbone of Kodiak’s economy and an understanding or fisheries issues is critical to serving in the post of city manager.

Kniaziowski has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in rural development with a specialty in community organization and development. She also has several years of experience in human resource management and served on the Unalaska City Council. The other selected finalists include David Fuqua (Foo-quh) of Oklahoma, Timothy Rooney, also of Oklahoma, and Alaskans David Richards of Hoonah and Rich Walker of Kotzebue. I’m Erik Wander.
