The first Kodiak Island Borough Beautification Awards were presented at last week’s assembly meeting. Three awards were presented, for individual, residential and commercial.
Mayor Jerome Selby made the announcement:
— (Beauty 1 50 sec "This is the inaugural … keep up the great work.")
Assemblywoman Judy Fulp, who ran on a platform of beautification, said many people helped make the awards a reality:
— (Beauty 2 42 sec "I really appreciate … and this will be a start.")
Selby said the residence award went to a family that’s made a largely commercial stretch of town more eye-pleasing:
— (Beauty 3 17 sec "The residence award … drive by and see.")
The business award went to the owners of the Kodiak Inn, but for their new project just down the road:
— (Beauty 4 32 sec "The final award … part of that operation.")
Selby said he’s looking forward to even more entries for next year’s awards. All residents can help with beautifying Kodiak in just over a month. Kodiak Spring Clean Up Day is set for May 2nd.
