The first event at the new convention center in downtown Kodiak will be Com-Fish, in late April, and according to Susan Johnson, the remodeling will be mostly done by that time.

Com-Fish will be April 23rd through 25th this year, a little later than usual. Its former earlier date was to coincide with spring break so it could be held at the high school. Kodiak Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debra King says the later date was possible because of the new Kodiak Harbor Convention Center, and travel for vendors should be easier.

Johnson is managing the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center from her office in the nearby Kodiak Inn.

Situated in former Southern Alaska auto dealership, which went defunct several years ago, the building is centrally located, and will offer a commanding view over Saint Paul Harbor and downtown Kodiak.

Johnson says several hundred people can be accommodated in a number of meeting rooms in the new venue:

(Convention 2 26 sec "There will be three … meeting rooms, anyway.")
