Lady Bears Fall in State Opener

Jay Barrett/KMXT

The Kodiak High School Lady Bears played their first game in a state championship basketball tournament in 22 years this (Thursday) evening against the number one-ranked Colony Knights. Kodiak’s gritty defense kept the valley team to only 41 points, but the Knights clamped down defensively, too, holding the Bears to 22.

Kodiak trailed 25-to-8 after three quarters, scoring 14 in the final frame.

Emily Garner was named Kodiak’s player of the game.

The Lady Bears move to the consolation bracket and will play at 9:45 Friday morning against the Dimond Lynx, who lost to the Wasilla Warriors yesterday.
