Kodiak Police Searcing for Missing Body

The Kodiak Police Department is investigating reports of a dead body spotted in Saint Herman Harbor. Police Chief T.C. Kamai said officers were summoned to the harbor on Near Island at about 2 Wednesday morning after witnesses reported seeing the body of what appeared to be a white male in his early 20s in the water near Ramp 1.

The chief said the witnesses saw no obvious sign of life in the man, and that the body sank before officers arrived. Police, fire and harbormaster personnel did an extensive search of the harbor, but failed to find the body, at which point the Alaska State Troopers dive team was called in. Two divers scoured the harbor for hours, but failed to turn up a body.

The police and harbor personnel are checking on everyone they know who lives aboard a boat in the harbor, but everyone seems to be accounted for, and no missing persons have been reported to the police. Kamai said the investigation continues.
