Big changes have come out of the annual spring meeting of the Prince William Sound Regional Citizens Advisory Council in Valdez. There is a new board president, and long-time executive director John Devens has resigned.

The other major change was Steve Lewis of Seldovia being elected president, replacing Patience Andersen-Faulkner of Cordova, who had served in that post since 2007. Jane Eisemann of Kodiak was elected to the executive committee at the annual meeting held Thursday and Friday in Valdez.

Prince William Sound RCAC spokesman Stan Jones said Devens has been on medical leave since earlier this year:

(RCAC 1 19 sec "The board election … today, in his resignation.")

He said Schantz (shawn-tzz) has been with the RCAC for some time:

(RCAC 2 25 sec "I think since the late 90s … a long time as well.")

Devens has been the voice of the Prince William Sound RCAC since 1997, and was a familiar face even before that:

(RCAC 3 31 sec "He’s definitely um, been … quite a career, actually.")

Jones says that despite the sudden changes in management, the RCAC’s mission is not changing:

(RCAC 4 16 sec "Although we’ve had … the escort system.")
