The Kodiak Lions Club had its raffle drawing during the community Clean Up Saturday for the electric car they were giving away. The "Zap Xebra" was won by Jenny Clay, who works at city hall.
— (Zap Car 1 16 sec "I was in Raspberry … a neighbor had called.")
The Zap Xebra is an all-electric car, as opposed to a hybrid, so there is no engine noise at all:
— (Zap Car 2 22 sec "It’s pretty cool … vacation I want to go on.")
As an all-electric car, it does have a limited range and limited capacity:
— (Zap Car 3 28 sec "I only drove it around … smaller people (laughter)")
The illegal part she referred to is that since the three-wheeled Zap Car is considered a motorcycle, drivers must have a motorcycle operators endorsement on their drivers license to legally take it on city streets. Clay said she’s got the motorcycle license manual and hopes to take the test next week.
Her winning ticket was drawn during the community clean up at the high school parking lot headquarters.
— (Zap Car 4 15 sec "I bought one ticket … so I bought a ticket.")
Proceeds from the Lions Club raffle will go toward sending the winners of the Kodiak Soap Box Derby to Akron, Ohio for the national championships this year.
