The Kodiak Island Borough School District is asking parents to keep their children home from school if they start exhibiting flu-like symptoms. Superintendant Stewart McDonald sent that message to parents last week.
Though no confirmed cases of Swine Flu have been reported in Alaska, preparation for its eventual arrival have been taking place on state and local levels.
McDonald’s letter asks parents to inform their school that their children are staying home with flu-like symptoms if they keep their kids home, so that the school nurses can keep track of what classes it may be affecting and "take any action necessary" to control the spread of the illness.
Schools in many Lower 48 communities have closed because of Swine Flu cases reported there.
