KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
Kodiak’s Madison Kersch is headed to Akron, Ohio, to compete in this year’s Soapbox Derby finals. Nicholas Medina of Anchorage will also represent Alaska at the annual championship race.
Madison and Nicholas were two of 30 youth who participated in Saturday’s qualifying race in Kodiak. This year marked the 10th running of the Soapbox derby in Kodiak. The race is sponsored by the Kodiak Lion’s club.
In addition to generating big smiles from the racers, the event helped raise around $700 for a local family.
