The Kodiak King Salmon Derby got some special visitors last week. A television crew from Fox Sports Northwest was in town and went out on a charter boat looking for the big fish.

You can get more information on the tournaments – and buy those all-important tickets – here in town at Mack’s, Cy’s and Kodiak Adventures, and at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Old Harbor.

Tournament organizer Judi Kidder:

(Kings 1 13 sec "Oh, so much excitement … for hogs this time?")

She said the film crew and host of "Hawg (hog) Quest," went out with guide Rick Baker, and had a successful trip:

(Kings 2 10 sec "I was on the boat … some hawgs and weigh them in.")

Overall, she said the tournament is going well, though the size of the kings hauled in are running on the small side:

(Kings 3 25 sec "We’ve had over 90 … are hatchery kings.")

Kidder said that unlike other fishing derbies, the weights of the leaders are not revealed during the tournament:

(Kings 4 31 sec "What we found last … one of the magic numbers.")

There’s not much time left to participate, as the tournament ends in less than two weeks:

(Kings 5 16 sec "The tournament ends … be revealed in time.")
