Contractors putting up the three wind turbines atop Pillar Mountain for Kodiak Electric were stalled for a few days when one of the massive towers was found to be flawed. KEA CEO Darron Scott said General Electric is picking up the tab for fixing the tower. Watch the windmill progress via webcam here .
— (KEA Turbine 1 39 sec "Yeah, it had a small indentation … and away we go.")
He said Friday that the first two towers should have their blades attached by now, and the third tower will go up this week:
— (KEA Turbine 2 22 sec "They will build the … bolt it up from there.")
Though it looks like the windmills are ready to go, Scott says there’s still a lot of work to be done before they can be brought on-line and produce electricity:
— (KEA Turbine 3 15 sec "Once we get done … work on the equipment.")
He said all the truck loads of parts made it to the top of Pillar Mountain in good shape, and he appreciated residents’ patience as the towers, generators and blades wound their way through town.
