The Kodiak High School Bears cross country team competed Saturday at the Skyview Invitational in Soldotna, with the boys placing fourth and the girls fifth. There were 26 teams, with runners from all the Anchorage and Region Three schools.
Dylan Anthony came in third with a time of 16-minutes 2-point-8-seconds. Newcomer Nathan Deer set a personal best of 17-minutes, 6.2-seconds to place 13th. Chaven Davidson was 34th, James Osowski 37th, Jordan Fogle was 43rd and Caleb Nymeyer was 47th, as both set personal bests as well. Jake Salus was 57th.
Service High School won the meet with 45 points, followed by South Anchorage and Grace Christian tied with 89. Kodiak had 127. West Anchorage rounded out the top five.
In the girls’ race, Chloe Ivanoff and Jaymi Bethea were one second apart, in 13th and 14th, respectively. Allie Smith was 23rd, Sarah Ng 26th, Samantha Haight 71st, Selma Ernest 75th and Amelia Egle was 82nd.
West Anchorage was the top girls team with 60 points, followed by South Anchorage, Colony, Wasilla and Kodiak.
Coach Marcus Dunbar said everyone on the team is improving and the squad looks to be where they need to be at this point in the season.
