The Kodiak High School Bears Football team took it on the chin Saturday in Soldotna, dropping their 10th straight game against the Stars 49-to-nothing.
So-Hi quarterback Brayden Price ran for a pair of TD’s against the Bears and passed for two more on a day when several teams around the state were routed.
Soldotna scored two touchdowns in the first and third periods, sandwiching three touchdowns in the second, all the while holding Kodiak to 128 total yards of offense and only nine first downs. So-Hi meanwhile racked up 460 total yards – 352 of them on the ground – and 13 first downs.
The Bears turned the ball over six times – five in the first half, giving the Stars plenty of opportunity to score.
Kodiak is now 1-and-1 in Northern Lights Conference play, while the Stars improve to 3-and-oh. Both teams are 3-2 overall.
Kodiak’s volleyball team was on the road and dropped two NLC matches to Palmer. The Bears are now 2-and-2 in the conference.
Meanwhile, in the new swimming pool here at home, Kodiak downed East Anchorage Friday 95-to-83 on the boys side and 97-to-86 for the girls. On Saturday, the boys won 111-to-69, and the girls were victorious 98-84.
In cross country, Kodiak split with Wasilla, with the boys victorious, but the girls falling to the Warriors. The shining light for the Bears was Chloe Ivanoff breaking the 20-minute barrier on the Fort Abercrombie course for the first time, clocking in at 19-minutes, 53-seconds. Dylan Anthony won the boys’ race in 16-minutes, 33-seconds.
