KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
There will be a familiar name running against long-time Kodiak Mayor Carolyn Floyd in the Municipal Elections next month. Charlie Davidson, who spent 15 years on the city council before retiring two years ago, is the only challenger for Floyd, who has served continuously since being elected in 1993. Davidson was recently appointed to fill a portion of the unexpired term of former councilman Jack Maker, who resigned suddenly this summer. The term for mayor is two years.
There is one year left in Maker’s term, and there are two local cannery bosses vying for the seat: Mike Woodruff, who is part owner of Alaska Fresh Seafoods, and John Whiddon, the manager of Island Seafoods. Woodruff is the son of the late Dave Woodruff, who served many years on the Kodiak City Council. Whiddon is also the president of the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
There are two full city council terms expiring this year, and each have only one candidate apiece seeking election to them, and they are the incumbents, Josie Rosales and Gabriel Saravia. Both are running unopposed for three-year terms.
The Municipal Election is on Tuesday, October 6th.
