A wooden-hulled fishing boat, the 83-foot Unimak, is on the rocks near Chignik, about 200 miles southwest of Kodiak city.

The three-person crew reportedly abandoned ship in a life raft, and were picked up by the Good Samaritan vessel Sylvia Star.

Coast Guard spokeswoman Sara Francis in Kodiak says there will be an overflight of the Unimak this afternoon by an Air Station Kodiak aircraft, and the Unimak’s skipper will survey the situation from aboard the Sylvia Star, as well. Francis said there is believed to be about 800 gallons of diesel onboard the Unimak.

There is a gale warning in effect for the coastal waters south of the Alaska Peninsula, with west winds gusting to 55 knots and seas to 14 feet.
