Health Care reform affects everyone. It’s a hot button topic that people across the nation are talking about. Next Monday Kodiak joins the national debate through a town hall meeting with Senator Lisa Murkowski.
Preparations are currently underway for the September 14th event. Murkowski will take part in the meeting thru live video conferencing. The Senator and the audience will see each other and audience members will be able to ask questions. This is the first time that video conferencing has been used by the Senator’s office for a town hall-type meeting. The event, which is sponsored by the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce, will be used as a prototype by the senator for other meetings around the state.
The town hall meeting will feature a moderator who will take questions from audience members. There is a 2-minute time limit per speaker. Those who are unable to attend can participate by sending questions to health@kodiak.org . Questions can be emailed in advance or during the meeting.
The Health Care reform issue is not likely to be resolved at next Monday’s meeting and not every audience member’s question will get answered. As Pam Foreman of the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce puts it, "The hour will go by really fast". Even so, the executive director of the Chamber, Debora King, hopes that many people will participate and take advantage of the opportunity to discuss healthcare reform with Murkowski.
The town hall meeting is open to everyone and will take place from 11:30 to 12:30 Monday, September 14th at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. Participants are urged to come early.
