Art Walk Saturday

Diana Gish/KMXT

The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is partnering with the Alutiiq Museum and the Baranov Museum to present an Afternoon of Art this Saturday, from 1 to 4 p.m.

KMXT’s Diana Gish has more:

Tina Shaw is the manager of the visitor center. She thinks the event is a great way to welcome the fall season.

(Afternoon Art 1 :16 "Well, we like … welcome the community.")

So what is an Afternoon of Art? Shaw says it’s in the spirit of a community art walk. The visitor’s center and the museums have pooled their resources and time to host the event.

(Afternoon Art 2 :13 "The three venues … showcase their work.")

The refuge visitor center will feature the art of Lisa McCormick, a local jeweler and glass artist.

(Afternoon Art 3 :20 "We’re so pleased … newest works in fact.")

The Alutiiq Museum will host local basket weaver and carver Coral Chernoff. Chernoff has been creating art in many mediums for 17 years and is best know for her weaving and ivory carving.

(Afternoon Art 4 :24 "Much of her … for their collection.")

And for those of us that aren’t familiar with encaustic painting, Shaw explained what to expect from Walker’s work.

(Afternoon Art 5 :23 "Encaustic art … and painted art.")

An Afternoon of Art is a free collaborative event that will take place Saturday from 1 to 3 at the Baranov Museum and at the Alutiiq Museum and the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor center from 1 to 4 p.m.

I’m Diana Gish.
