At the Kodiak City Council’s work session Thursday night City Manager Aimee Kniaziowski reported to the council on her recent trip to Juneau.
At the capitol she met with representatives of several state departments in an effort to get funding for completion of the Kodiak jail by March of the coming year.

While in Juneau Kniaziowski met with the Department of Corrections, the Department of Public Safety, the Alaska State Troopers, the Office of Management and Budget, and several of the governor’s other staff members including the governor’s chief of staff.

The city manager had a response for critics who feel the city is wrong to ask the state to fund the jail construction shortfall.

During Thursday night’s city council regular meeting, council members approved a change order for the new police station. That order totaled just over 76 thousand dollars and included a specialized sprinkler system for the communication electronics room and a change in construction material for the outside of the building. It was pointed out that the new material should reduce the cost of heating the building.
Kniaziowski said that work on the new police station is on schedule.
