Injured Car Thief Sought

Jay Barrett/KMXT

A drunken high-speed joyride early Sunday morning apparently did not turn out well for the driver, but authorities don’t know for sure, as he or she fled the scene after crashing the car.

The Kodiak Police Department believes the suspect suffered potentially serious injuries, given the amount of damage to the car and the amount of blood found at the scene.

The police report that at around 12:30 on Sunday morning a green 2004 Saturn Vue SUV was stolen from in front of a residence in the 200 block of East Rezanof Drive, and crashed minutes later not far away near the Kodiak High School, where it slid off the icy roads into a tree.

The Kodiak Crime Stoppers is offering up to 1,000 dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the car thief, who could be charged with vehicle theft and leaving the scene of an accident. The Kodiak Crime Stoppers phone number is 486-3113, and callers do not have to identify themselves.
