Residents near Salonie Creek may have heard a big boom Wednesday afternoon. If so, it was the result of a World War Two bomb that was set off by the Explosive Ordnance Detail of Fort Richardson.

The soldiers arrived in Kodiak Wednesday after hearing about the bomb through the volunteers of Kodiak’s Military History Museum.

Before it was detonated, the museum’s Kurt Law talked to KMXT’s Diana Gish about the ordnance and how yesterday’s explosive event came about.

The ordnance was exploded shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday night. Pictures of the explosion and a piece of "Da Bomb" will soon be on display at the Military History Museum.
