There’s been a lot going on at the Kodiak Island Convention and Visitors Bureau lately. Executive Director Janet Buckingham gave an update on the organization’s activities to the Kodiak City Council on Thursday night. The city provides partial funding for the KICVB’s mission.
— (KICVB 1 28 sec "It’s been a very, very busy … to anyone who’d like to come.")
The guest speaker at Saturday’s meeting will be Amy Cockerham, vice president of a P-R company, who will make a presentation on the importance of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, to small tourism-related companies. Buckingham said the KICVB has embraced those social media tools itself:
— KICVB 2 25 sec "In October we developed … what’s going on in Kodiak.")
She also gave a recap of 2009 cruise ship visitation, and an outlook for this summer’s season:
— (KICVB 2 51 sec "The cruise industry kept us … dropped from the fleet.")
Buckingham said that unless other ships are added, the 2011 cruise ship season might only see nine ships making port in Kodiak.
Once again, the KICVB’s annual meeting is on Saturday morning at 11:30 at the Powerhouse.
