As a part of the Kodiak Island Borough’s solid waste management plan, the Anchorage-based company "Alaska Waste" was contracted to carry out a study about curbside trash pick-up in Kodiak.

At the assembly’s work session last week, the plan was unveiled to the public. At that meeting, several people were present to hear the proposed plan and to comment.

One of those who commented at the meeting was Nick Szabo who is a member of the borough’s solid waste advisory board. He sat down with KMXT’s Diana Gish to share his perspective on the trash issue. Szabo stressed that he was speaking as a private citizen and not as a SWAB member or spokesman. His view is that parts of the curbside collection plan creates more problems than it solves.

Before any further action is taken, the issue of curbside trash pick up in Kodiak will be discussed again at next month’s assembly work session.
