Fish and Game wildlife biologist Larry VanDaele returned recently from Sweden where he was invited to speak to a group of film makers about bears. As a result of that trip, Van Daele was not in Kodiak to offer a response to the recently introduced curb-side trash collection proposal. That proposal was presented to members of the Kodiak Island Borough during a recent work session. Since his return, Van Daele offered his view of the plan through a letter to members of the borough assembly.

He spoke with KMXT’s Diana Gish about his opinion and his hope for a positive outcome to the much discussed issue of trash collection in Kodiak.

(Bears "You wrote a … real possibility, yep.")

The curb-side collection proposal will be discussed again at the assembly’s next work session on February 11th. This week, Assembly members are taking part in the Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference in Anchorage.
