On Monday night at the Kodiak Island Borough School District Board of Education meeting, the board approved a motion to start seeking bids on a major technology upgrade for the district. The new technology is grant funded and was selected by a committee of teachers and administrators who’ve met since the beginning of the year and then spent their spring break pouring over information about today’s latest teaching tools.

Some of the members of that committee discussed the process and what’s coming next:

(Technology "I’m Lindsey Glenn …classroom to have.")

The grant funding to pay for the new technology included an SFSF grant of 840 thousand dollars and an RF grant of around 300 thousand dollars.

The committee members explained that MAC computers were chosen over PC based on the technical support available to the district, the ability to seamlessly integrate different aspects of the system, the ease of operation and the price.

The new technology is expected to be put to use starting in August.
