Lady Bears Roll; Boys Face Homer

The Kodiak High School Bears split a pair of games against the Soldotna Stars yesterday in first round action at the Northern Lights Conference Basketball Tournament at Skyview High School.

The third-ranked Lady Bears pulled off an upset over the second ranked Stars by downing them 44-to-26 in a midday game. They now advance to play the top-seeded Wasilla Warriors, who downed the Homer Mariners in first-round action yesterday, at 3 o’clock this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Kodiak boys, ranked fourth in the NLC’s north division, fell to the south division’s top-ranked team, SoHi, 60-to-48, in a game closer than the score would indicate – the Bears were within four midway through the fourth quarter. At 9:45 this morning Kodiak will play Homer, who lost to Colony yesterday. The Bears man-handled the Mariners last weekend here at home.

You can hear those games live on KVOK or Jack FM, and you can keep track of the scores online at Derek Clarkston’s Twitter feed . We’ll have updates here on KMXT at noon and 5 p.m. today.
