A fixture at Kodiak governmental meetings for over two decades passed away on Saturday. Steve Kreber, who held many different day jobs since moving to Kodiak in 1978 – most recently at Sutliff’s Hardware – passed away Saturday at the age of 60.
It was his evening job as the GCI cameraman for assembly, school board and council meetings, as well as political debates, for which Mayor Carolyn Floyd and the Kodiak City Councilmembers remembered him last night.
Mr. Kreber was also present during the daily public meetings 21 years ago in the aftermath of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. The video tapes he shot have been digitized and are now part of the permanent archive at Kodiak College.
Mr. Kreber is survived by his wife Aida Sallows, three sons, five grandchildren, and a brother. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at Saint Mary’s Church.
