The crew of the Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Sea arrived in Kodiak yesterday from a deployment in the Bering Sea. The Bering Sea Ecosystem Study or "BEST" cruise is part of a six-year study of the Bering Sea ecosystem. The study is supported by the National Science Foundation and the North Pacific Research Board.

In a conversation with KMXT’s Diana Gish, Coastguard spokesperson Sara Francis talked about the ship’s mission and how it’s presence created a unique training opportunity for some Air Station Kodiak helicopter pilots.
